Batalha Golf Course set on a historic site (the name Batalha derives from the battle waged here between liberal and absolutist troops in the 19th century fighting for political control of the island of São Miguel), the most recent golf course in the Azores stands on a plain close to Ponta Delgada,.|To the North, the course faces seawards, whilst in the East it looks towards the hills, with higher mountains to the South. The fact that the course was built on volcanic rock created difficulties in its design and has resulted in a spectacular contrast between the green playing areas and the dry woods standing on rocky soil to the side of these. Sometimes it's not clear where you need to go to when going through the course (we mixed up holes 3 & 7)

All three courses are great. The high percentage of carts is putting some pressure on sportive players walking.

Exciting layout and magnificent views. Nice clubhouse with everything you need and friendly staff. Condition of fairways and greens were ok. Information on the tees could be better and a lot of bunkers had no rakes.

Nice courses. The people at the pro shop are very helpful and kind.
Achada das Furnas golf course is situated on São Miguel Island, «the green island», near the grottoes or furnas, and the lake with that name, places which show the volcanic origin of these islands.|A new nine-hole course designed by Cameron Powell has been added to the previous one. It maintains the character given by Mackenzie Ross, so much so that it is impossible to say nowadays which two nines was designed first. The separation of the fairways is almost always made by cryptomerias, large trees that, in our opinion, are the most suitable for the purpose. The course has all the characteristics of a Scottish one and it is the most British of all Portuguese golf courses. Practically every fairway is undulated, requiring all types of shots, and the greens are excellent and full of borrows. (...)

A very interesting experience. There is a sign in the clubhouse noting that Furnas was rated by Golf Digest as the #2 course in Portugal in 2014. Wow. Ok maybe #2 in the Azores. Clubhouse, very bare bones emphasis on very. Reception good. Pro is a nice guy. Buggy had no brake. Fairways furry. Greens stimp at about 2. Hole # 15 doubles as the range so folks on the range are supposed to let you play through… we had a fellow who was “training” join us on 15. Gave me a good bunker tip “FINISH”. . Other players cut in and out at will. A very interesting experience. Fun in an odd way. Its a muni but you are on an island in the mid Atlantic. Temper your expectation and it can be quite fun!

Everyone was very welcoming.
The course was very wet and would be closed where we are from in Canada. Staff were very welcoming.

In principle its a 9. For the many carts putting pressure on golfers walking it is a 7.

Unfortunately the golf course during our time was quite wet and cold. The winter is probably not the time to visit an otherwise lovely golf course. The climate in Furnas leads to frequent rain. The staff at the facility were kind. The golf trolleys were not a great design for using with carrying bags. A good course to walk.
